Africa Attracting Global Automakers

Long ignored by international auto makers due to low incomes and poor business environments, Sub-Saharan Africa is now the focus of increasing interest  in the global automotive sector. As incomes rise and economies develop, car makers such as Toyota, GM, and India’s Tata are expanding their presence in African economies. Imports are growing rapidly, and domestic assembly industries are expanding in countries like Kenya, though poor logistics remain a challenge. Here to discuss  the potential of the automotive sector in Sub-Saharan Africa are two members of Business Monitor’s Automotive research team, Anna-Marie Baisden and Nathan Hayes, as well as Daniel Richards, an analyst from our freight and shipping research team
